The FIDE Swiss system is an official language assessment that measures how well you speak, understand, read, and write in German, French, or Italian. Divided into oral and written sections, the test focuses on real-life communication skills needed for residency, citizenship, or work in Switzerland. Results are based on CEFR levels (A1–B1) and reflect your ability to handle everyday situations in your chosen language.

The FIDE test doesn’t use traditional scores—instead, it assigns a CEFR level (A1 to B1) for each skill: speaking, listening, reading, and writing. Your results are recorded in a Language Passport, which serves as official proof of your language proficiency. This flexible scoring reflects your real-life communication ability and helps meet the requirements for residency, settlement, or Swiss citizenship.
